Why do people tip people? ?

  • Or why are you expected to tip people for doing a job they are paid for?


  • There are two reasons to tip:

    1 - you receive really good service and the server made you feel welcome.

    2 - you are in a state that is ridiculous enough to have laws that allow the employer to pay the server less than minimum wage because they count tips towards their wages. So I have to make up for what the states is screwing out of them...


  • More often than not, people in the service industries are paid less than the minimum wage. If the service provided is decent, then I have no problem with tipping. Whether the person is a college student trying to pay their way through school, or someone who is trying to feed their family, they deserve to make a decent wage. Kindness makes the world go round.
